Chris Evans Praises Ana De Armas’ MCU-Level Stunts For New Movie

Chris Evans praises his Ghosted co-star Ana de Armas’ action bona fides, describing her MCU-level stuntwork for their new Apple TV+ movie.

Chris Evans has nothing but praise for his Ghosted co-star Ana de Armas and her dedication to intense stunt work. Set to premiere on Apple TV+ later this month, Ghosted is a romantic action-comedy based on a story by Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. Directed by Rocketman’s Dexter Fletcher, the film was originally intended to have Scarlett Johansson star opposite Evans, but scheduling conflicts forced her role to be recast with de Armas instead.

Speaking with ComicBook.com, Evans expresses his admiration for de Armas, with whom he had previously worked on Knives Out and The Gray Man. Suggesting that the quickly rising star “throws herself into everything completely,” he compared her stunt work to something akin to what audiences would see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Black Widow. Check out his comments below:

Plus getting to work with Ana again… she’s fantastic. We’ve done a few things together now, and she’s great. She throws herself into everything completely. The first action sequence we had, she was doing things that were on Black Widow level. Truly unbelievable stunt work, where I was like, ‘Wow, you’ve been doing your stunt training.’ She really went for it. I mean, we all saw that in Bond, too. I mean, she was, she was so good in Bond. So effortlessly cool. So yeah, that was a bit of a no brainer.

Is Ana de Armas Set To Become The Next Big Action Star?

Ana de Armas No Time to Die Paloma

Beginning her career as a teenager in her native Cuba and later moving to Spain, de Armas’ first English-speaking role was in the 2015 erotic thriller Knock Knock opposite Keanu Reeves. Yet it was her performance as Ryan Gosling’s AI companion, Joi, in 2017’s Blade Runner 2049 which truly introduced her to a wider international audience. Since then, the rising star has gone on to quickly become one of the most sought-after actors in Hollywood, assuming leading roles in films like Knives Out and the Marilyn Monroe movie Blonde.

Her appearance in the 2021 Bond film No Time To Die, however, proved her action bona fides. Despite appearing briefly in the film, de Armas’ action-centric turn as the CIA operative Paloma was widely regarded as one of the highlights of Daniel Craig’s final Bond outing. Since then, she has not only gone to tackle other action-heavy roles, including 2022’s The Gray Man and the soon-to-be-released Ghosted, but she is also signed on to lead the upcoming John Wick spinoff film Ballerina.

Despite possessing a clear aptitude for action roles and the stunt work required, de Armas herself is not sure that becoming an action star is something she necessarily wants to pursue. Earlier this year, she intimated Ballerina would likely be her last action role for a while, as she wishes to pursue more character work. While it’s understandable she wants to stretch her dramatic muscles, it seems she is also a natural fit for roles like the one she is set to play in GhostedWith any luck, audiences may get to see her juggle both types of projects in the future.
