The tiny house trend continues to bubble away and for those looking to jump on the bandwagon, one DIY expert has revealed how to turn a shed into a stunning home.
In a series of TikTok videos, Texas-based creator @shed_to_house_living reveals how he went about fitting out a 16ft by 40ft double-lofted barn and creating livable spaces.
The 32-year-old said the project cost about $80,000 in total and he started out by purchasing a three-acre plot of land for $7,000 with his wife.
Instead of building a structure from scratch, the couple bought a ready-made barn, and added plaster walls to create an open-plan kitchen-cum-living room area, a bedroom and a bathroom.
In several videos, the creator showcases the dramatic transformation of the basic shed into a modern dwelling bigger than most New York apartments, complete with well thought-out furnishings and appliances.

The low-cost build project has left many viewers in awe.
One TikTok user wrote after watching a tour of the tiny home: ‘Geez, this “shed” has bigger rooms than my three bedroom apartment.
‘My two story [home] is about 900 sq ft. For five people so it feels VERY crowded.’
The creator revealed that his home serves up 640sqft on the ground level and 384sqft in the loft which is used for storage.
To get into the loft, the barn dwellers currently use a ladder, but they hope to install a retractable one soon.
Another viewer praised the handyman for his tiny house idea given the current economic climate, commenting: ‘Financially so freaking smart! We built one for our 23-year-old to avoid high rent prices!’
Responding to the kind comments, the creator said: ‘I know right! At 32 I’m mortgage free and living in a house I’m proud of.’
The handyman says that they built a smaller shed alongside their barn to serve as a laundry room.
They finished both structures off with a lick of ‘barn red.’ Meanwhile, white was used for the window frames, the front door and an awning installed over the entranceway.
To get their home hooked up to for the water and electricity, the creator said he called the utility companies and got them to install the relevant lines.
To save space in the kitchen, he said he skipped installing a dishwasher as he could wash dishes by hand and he installed a breakfast bar instead of a dining table.
Moving to the bedroom, he installed clothes organizers under the bed instead of a closet to free up extra space.
In the bathroom, however, he decided to splash out with a full-sized shower with an ‘amazing’ rain showerhead because it’s a luxury both him and his wife enjoy.
Other luxury items he reveals in his bathroom include a full mirror, his ‘n’ her shelves and a vanity complete with a granite countertop and porcelain sink.
To ensure their home doesn’t blow away in the event of strong winds, he said he hurricane-proofed the structure by securing it to the ground with about ten straps.
Many viewers asked the Texan how he got a permit to build a home.
He explained: ‘We live in Texas so the county said as long as we were outside of city limits and on unrestricted land we were good to go… we are in the middle of nowhere lol.’
Offering some advice to people hoping to follow in his footsteps, the creator said: ‘Go slow, and make sure your doing what you want to do, not just what’s easiest.’
The homeowner’s first TikTok video giving a tour of his barn home has been viewed more than 1.7 million times since it was uploaded in June 2022.
Many viewers have deemed the property ‘beautiful’ and ‘gorgeous,’ and pondered if they could give up their brick and mortar home for something similar.
