Things aren’t looking good for Kid. Can he move passed this latest setback, or is he done for good?
One Piece started the much-anticipated final saga with the Egghead arc. For fans to see the long-running series enter the final phase is a massive thing. The hype surrounding the final saga has been immense, and so far, the Egghead arc has not disappointed. Oda has disclosed plenty of new information about both new and old characters. The revelations in the Egghead arc have taken One Piece fans by storm.
Almost all the chapters in the arc have been fantastic, which is why fans had high expectations from Chapter 1079, and unsurprisingly, Oda delivered a high-quality chapter again. The beginning of the chapter focused on the developments on Egghead Island, but the focus swiftly shifted to Elbaf, which was turning into a warzone.
Eustass Kid vs Red-Haired Shanks
Eustass Kid went to Elbaf hoping to find the “man marked by flames.” While he was unsure about the person’s location, logic would indicate that he went to the right place. This is supported by the fact that Saul was last seen in Elbaf. Saul was involved in the Ohara incident, and he was presumed dead, but he somehow managed to survive. Shaka revealed that Saul had managed to save the books of the scholars of Ohara. So, it is safe to assume that he read the books and learned about many different things, including the Road Poneglyphs. Naturally, a person in possession of such sensitive information would be sought out by a pirate wanting to claim the great treasure.
When Kid arrived near the waters of Elbaf, he was expecting resistance from the giants, but the thought of a Yonko staying on the island never crossed his mind. As Kid’s crew drew nearer, the members of Shanks’ fleet began to move toward the young Supernova. They didn’t want Shanks to be involved in the tussle, but the Yonko had other ideas. Before leaving the island, Shanks requested the aid of Dorry and Brogy, who were more than willing to protect their homeland. After seeing the future with his Haki, Shanks ordered his fleet to step back and then used Divine Departure to take out Kid and most of his crew members. The remaining crewmates acted quickly and gave the Yonko all three copies of the Road Poneglyphs. Shanks took them and returned to his ship. The Kid Pirates believed that they had averted a major disaster, but they couldn’t have been more wrong. Dorry and Brogy subsequently used Hakoku Sovereignty to destroy Victoria Punk. The attack was powerful enough to slice the ship in two, piling further misery on the Kid Pirates.
What Will Happen To The Kid Pirates?
With this defeat, the Kid Pirates are out of the race for the One Piece. They can no longer compete for the treasure as they lost all of their Road Poneglyphs. Furthermore, their fighting spirit is very likely crushed after suffering such a painful loss. There is no telling what will happen to the crew, as they even lost their ship. While it may be an exaggeration to presume that all of them will die, they only have a few options if they want to survive.

The lack of a sailing vessel means that Kid and his crew are stranded in the sea near Elbaf. Since Kid and Killer are devil fruit users, they will be severely weakened in water, and they won’t be able to protect themselves from the ginormous creatures lurking in the waters. So, the non-devil fruit users will have to take them to solid land, and the closest choice would be Elbaf. However, the people of Elbaf will not let them take shelter considering the pirates were hostile toward them. Some might think that Shanks may take pity on Kid, but judging from his reaction, that seems highly unlikely.
Will Kid Appear In The Future?
If the Kid Pirates do survive, then there is a strong chance that they will reappear in the future, possibly to fight in the final war against the World Government. Considering Eustass Kid is one of the more popular Supernovas, it would be a strange decision to omit him from such a significant event. Kid has already expressed his disdain for World Government, and like Luffy, he does not hesitate to back down from a fight. In fact, Kid’s personality is what earned him a huge fan following. While many fans have been saddened by Kid’s defeat, there is no denying that Kid was foolish to challenge Shanks.
From the Wano Country arc, it was clear that Kid and Law were not strong enough to fight a Yonko in 1v1. It was evidenced by the fact that it required both of them to defeat Big Mom. If one were to observe their fight under a microscope, then it would become even more apparent that it was Trafalgar Law who played the more crucial role in defeating her. If it weren’t for Law’s incredibly overpowered devil fruit abilities, Kid wouldn’t have stood a chance. While the prospect of Kid being involved in the final war is definitely appealing, it all depends on whether he can survive until then. At the moment, Kid and his crew lie at the bottom of the sea with no help in sight.
