Daredevil: Born Again season 2 could already be in the works at Marvel Studios, as star Vincent D’Onofrio teases its gigantic payoffs and development.
Daredevil: Born Again season 2 could already be in the works based on a tease from Kingpin actor Vincent D’Onofrio. After having Charlie Cox’s Daredevil and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk appear in other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, plans were announced for a massive Disney+ revival featuring the former leads of Netflix’s Daredevil show. Daredevil: Born Again was confirmed with an 18-episode first season, which is now in production. The show is not expected to arrive on Disney+ until sometime in 2024 based on Marvel Studios’ Multiverse Saga announcement from San Diego Comic-Con 2022.
Before a single episode of the MCU Disney+ show arrives, Daredevil: Born Again season 2 might already be planned. Star Vincent D’Onofrio teased as much during a recent interview with Newsweek. He teased that the show is “quite different” from the Netflix show and that the series, which also brings back Jon Bernthal’s Punisher, has a long game in mind. This potentially includes Daredevil: Born Again season 2 being in development, as D’Onofrio teased the “gigantic payoffs” that will come in the sophomore season of the series. Read his full quote below:
And, by the second season, there are gigantic, gigantic payoffs—in the first season, too, but I can’t say much about that—but the fans are gonna really get what they want. It’s really quite cool to be doing it.
Has Daredevil: Born Again Been Split Into Two Seasons After Disney+ Changes?
The indication that Daredevil: Born Again season 2 is happening could be more complicated than D’Onofrio’s tease indicates. It would be easy to think that Marvel Studios is working on ideas for a second season of the show already, and there is a chance that this is the case. D’Onofrio could be knowledgeable about this if his Marvel contract includes a clause for Daredevil: Born Again season 2. However, it is also possible that the second season referenced here is actually the second part of the first season.
When it was announced that Daredevil: Born Again would be 18 episodes long, questions arose about if it was a single season. Kevin Feige specified at the time that the 18 episodes were for season 1, raising questions about how Marvel Studios would go about releasing 18 weeks of content on Disney+. The idea of splitting the season into multiple parts has been commonly discussed among fans, similar to how Agents of SHIELD season 4 used pods to break its story into three sections. It’s possible Daredevil: Born Again will be split into two different seasons.
This would make sense after recent Disney+ output expectation changes for Marvel Studios. Disney CEO Bob Iger wants to slow down the pace at which MCU shows are released. Releasing new episodes of Daredevil: Born Again weekly for a third of the year will not help space out content or avoid Marvel fatigue. That could mean plans have now been set into motion to view the original 18 episodes as two different seasons, explaining Vincent D’Onofrio’s Daredevil: Born Again season 2 comments.
