Former player Dimitar Berbatov has warned Antony about performing provoking opponents.
Antony has often been criticized for his over-the-top performances in his first season at United, and also because the performance he brought in was not worth the £85m transfer fee. Former player Dimitar Berbatov was also unimpressed with some points of Antony’s play. Berbatov also warned Antony about the risk of injury if he continued to disrespect his opponent.
“I think Antony is a good signing. But in my opinion, sometimes he deserves to be criticized for his performance on the pitch. He makes the opponent look stupid in a negative way. Sometimes his performances bring nothing to the team. If he can get rid of these negative things then his influence on the team will be much bigger.
If you tease your opponent, they will become stronger and you will not receive respect from your opponent. If he removes these points then he can improve a lot because he is a great talent with good qualities. He also scores great goals. The problem is that he’s frustrating the other side and he needs to fix that.”
Despite receiving much criticism, Antony has stated that he will not change his play style. The Brazilian remains a key star with Man United under Ten Hag. This season, Antony has contributed 9 goals and 3 assists in 33 appearances in all competitions.
