Anne Hathaway revealed that she had a wardrobe malfunction Tuesday ahead of her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
The 36-year-old actress appeared effervescent in a light gray silky pajama-style pantsuit and pumps with tiered purple earrings for her visit to the CBS show.
Anne said she arrived at the show in a completely different ensemble.

‘If you guys want to, Google the pictures of me outside,’ she said to the audience.
‘Now you might notice I’m standing like this,’ she added, crossing her legs, with a hand on her hip. ‘And the reason I’m standing like that is because I looked down in the car, and my pants had split.’
‘Like the whole whoooo…’ she said tracing a line around her crotch.
‘Wow. All the way to Christmas,’ said host Stephen, 54, as Anne buried her face in her hands.
Pants split: The 36-year-old actress said the pants she was wearing split
‘There’s a row of photographers, like ”Anne! Anne! Anne!”,’ she said, mimicking the awkward way in which she had to slide out of her car, crotch covered.
It was far from her first wardrobe malfunction.
In May 2014, she was headed to the Met Gala, where she was due to be a guest of Calvin Klein designer Francisco Costa.
Covered up: The actress said she had to cross her legs after her pants split at the crotch
‘I was about a block away from the Met, and I was like, ”Wow, this is amazing”,’ she recalled earlier in the show. ‘Ah-choo! And I sneezed and my dress split.’
Anne said that she was horrified.
‘I’m pulling up and Francisco’s so proud of this dress. I put the window down and he’s like, ”Baby, you look amazing.”’ I’m like, ”Thank you so much. My dress just broke…”
Dress disaster: Anne also recalled a dress disaster at the 2014 Met Gala
‘And I’ve never actually seen someone turn green before, and I’m like, ”It’s going to be fine”,’ she remembers. ‘I can go on the carpet—I can keep my arm down, and I’ll hold it in place, and we’ll get inside and there’s going to be a needle and thread…’ And he goes, ”Pull over.”
The two of them got out at a local hotel, where a kind seamstress fixed the gown and sent them onward to the glittering event, but they were afraid they’d missed their moment.
‘We show up, there’s nobody on the red carpet, and I said, ‘Oh my god, did we miss it?’ And they said, ‘You’re just ahead of Rihanna. Gooooooo!’
Carpet etiquette: The Devil Wears Prada star told Stephen about Met Gala carpet etiquette
‘Apparently the only rule you cannot break at the Met Ball is you cannot show up after Rihanna,’ Hathaway marvels. ‘That’s just gauche.’
Anne was on the talk show promoting her new movie The Hustle due out on Friday in theaters.
She plays an upper-crust scam artist working with fellow con artist Rebel Wilson.
Coming soon: Anne was promoting her new comedy The Hustle also starring Rebel Wilson
Anne shared how their ‘slightly raunchy’ film, once R-rated, earned a coveted PG-13.
‘We felt like it was unfair, because we really calibrated the jokes when we were working on it to make sure that it felt PG-13,’ Hathway explained.
Fortunately Wilson, 39, was able to call on her pre-film training as a lawyer to argue their case with the ratings board.
Citing similarly raunchy PG-13 comedies made by men, she claimed the board was holding their female-driven film to a double standard.
When show host Stephen asked Anne if there were any shows she loved to watch as ‘comfort food,’ she cited Game of Thrones, Killing Eve and RuPaul’s Drag Race.

‘I couldn’t talk. Just say I love you,’ Anne laughed.
Surprise meeting: Ru Paul surprised Anne who is a huge fan of his show
Just then, Ru Paul ran out with a ‘Hiiii!’ wearing a silver suit that paralleled Anne’s.
‘Oh my god,’ she said, overcome, as they hugged and compared notes on their sparkly suits. ‘I love you so much! Thank you so much for everything!’
Asked if there as anything he wanted to say to Anne, Ru beamed.
‘Darling. You are the winner of this week’s challenge. Shanté, you stay.’
She then leaned up and kissed him on the cheek.
