A famous male lion in Africa, honored as the “lion king” living in Serengeti National Park (Tanzania) has just been bitten to death by younger male lions in the fight for power.
Possessing amber eyes, large black-and-gold mane, the male lion named Bob Junior has been nicknamed “lion king” by staff working at Serengeti National Park (Tanzania). This is also the most famous lion in Africa when many nature photographers come to take pictures because of its majestic appearance.
Many wildlife lovers also gave Bob Junior the nickname “the most beautiful lion in East Africa”.
Bob Junior and his brother, a male lion named Marley, have dominated a large area in the Serengeti National Park for the past 7 years. However, Bob Junior’s “reign” officially ended last weekend, when “the king died”.
According to Tanzanian media, Bob Junior was bitten to death by three young lions during a power struggle last weekend in the Namiri Plain, in the Serengeti National Park. When bitten to death, Bob Junior is estimated to be between the ages of 10 and 13. On average, Serengeti lions reach full size at the age of 4 and are considered afterlife by the age of 12.
Local media also said that one of the three young lions that bitten to death Bob Junior was the son of this “king”. The lion Marley, Bob Junior’s brother, was also bitten to death in this fight.
“Such fights usually happen when the leader of the pack gets older or when the younger lions in the herd are not satisfied with it being controlled, they will rise up to take over,” said Fredy Shirima, staff working at the Serengeti reserve, shared.
“Wars for power are completely normal and part of life in lions, where the strongest are ruled. However, the death of Bob Junior, the famous male lion, made me sad. somewhat regretful,” said Rob Marchant, professor of tropical ecology at York University (Canada).
Many Serengeti National Park staff, wildlife photographers and animal researchers expressed their regret when they heard that Bob Junior was bitten to death.
