Manchester United midfielder Casemiro was shown a straight red card in their Premier League clash with Southampton after a high challenge on Carlos Alcaraz.
The 31-year-old Brazilian, who was also sent off in United’s win over Crystal Palace last month, was dismissed in the 34th minute after his studs were raised when making a slide tackle.
After referee Anthony Taylor initially brandished a yellow card for the clumsy tackle, VAR reviewed the decision and Taylor changed his mind.
Casemiro will now be suspended for four games after his second red of the season. He will miss games against Fulham, Newcastle, Brentford and Everton.

Ten Hag explains reason for Sancho role change vs Southampton as Man Utd make key switch

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has explained the reason behind a role change for Jadon Sancho for the side’s Premier League clash against Southampton.
Sancho has operated on both flanks for United under Ten Hag, often lining up on the right side of attack in recent weeks.
The England international has recently returned to first team action following a period away from the first team, and has scored two goals in all competitions since his comeback last month.
After suffering with illness, Sancho was named on the bench for Thursday’s 4-1 win over Real Betis in the Europa League, replacing Marcus Rashford on 65 minutes.
But he will play as a ‘number 10’, or attacking midfielder, to start the Southampton game – and Ten Hag has revealed his thinking behind the switch.
Ten Hag explains Sancho change
The number 10 role has often been filled by Wout Weghorst in recent weeks, but the Dutchman appears set to start as a centre forward, with Rashford on the left side of attack.
That frees up Sancho to play in the centre of attacking midfield, with Ten Hag explaining to MUTV (via Manchester Evening News): “I think at number 10 we need a strong press, you need quick feet in the midfield. You need a player there who can create, who can run in behind, which Jadon can do.”
The decision to play Sancho at number 10 has been brought about because of Bruno Fernandes playing in a deeper role. Fred and Scott McTominay are on the bench, with Marcel Sabitzer out injured.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka also returns to the starting XI from the 7-0 defeat to Liverpool, replacing Diogo Dalot.
On the selection of Wan-Bissaka, Ten Hag added: “They have quick attackers, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is a really good defender.
“He can defend spaces in the back and he did well on Thursday night but also in the months before. He’s made really good progress.”
