Liverpool suddenly lost to Bournemouth in the relegation battle with a score of 0-1 in the 27th round of the Premier League on the evening of March 11.
Compared to the 7-0 win against MU, coach Jurgen Klopp only changed one position. 18-year-old midfielder Stefan Bajcetic replaces Jordan Henderson as a holding midfielder alongside Fabinho.
Explaining this decision, the German military leader said: “Bajcetic is a top player, smart. He has good technique and vision.”
In the first minutes of the match, Liverpool pressed the home team. The consecutive shots of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah or Cody Gakpo made the Bournemouth defense wobble. Notably, Gakpo put the ball into the net but the goal was disallowed due to offside.
Creating a good game, Liverpool suddenly conceded a goal. In the 28th minute, Dango Ouattara escaped down the right wing and passed Van Dijk before stretching for Philip Billing to cushion the wall in an unaccompanied position.
The goal made “The Kop” stunned. They lost confidence and nearly went 2-0 down if Dominic Solanke’s shot failed to go over the bar after 41 minutes. On the contrary, the fans celebrated with a header that went wide of the post by Van Dijk.
After the break, coach Klopp decided to substitute Diogo Jota for Harvey Elliott to increase attack power. Jota’s mobility helps Liverpool attack strong goals.
In the 67th minute, the away team was awarded a penalty. From the right cross of James Milner, Jota headed the ball and hit Adam Smith’s hand. However, Mohamed Salah made a mistake on the 11-meter mark. The Bournemouth goalkeeper fell in the wrong direction, but the Egyptian striker shot out, missing the equalizer.
The remaining minutes, Liverpool do everything to find a goal. But in one day the attack proved ungainly, Liverpool finished 15 times but could not penetrate the Liverpool net.
Losing the match, “The Kop” missed the opportunity to level the score with Tottenham in 4th place on the Premier League table. They are at risk of being surpassed by Newcastle United if “Chicken” wins against Wolves on the evening of March 12.
