Sandro Geyser managed to capture this stunning and moving sighting on camera when he was in the Okavango Delta. Sandro said that on a scorching hot day, they observed two lionesses lounging in the shade at the sᴄᴇɴᴇ ᴄʟᴏsᴇ to camp Khwai.
After some time, they went back to camp for brunch. Forty minutes later, they went back to check on the lions to see if anything had changed. When they first arrived, they observed that there were no lions in the shade, but when they turned to look at the side opposite, they found that the lions were already riding a roan antelope less than 15 meters away.
The first feelings were ones of joy at having the opportunity to observe such a rare event in open daylight. But as the day went on, sympathy and emotions of heroism for the battling roan grew. The roan, battered and injured, was struggling for life.
By the time they had to leave in the late afternoon, the roan and the lions were sleeping ᴄʟᴏsᴇ to one another in the shade. There appeared to be a cease-fire between them. The following morning, they went back to the sᴄᴇɴᴇ but saw nothing. Sandro thought the roan ᴘᴀssᴇᴅ ᴀᴡᴀʏ somewhere over the course of the night but no one was certain.
