The largest lizards on the planet, komodo dragons have a lifespan of up to 30 years. They can weigh 70 kg and reach heights of 10 feet. How tall are they when compared with humans? Equivalent to a 6-foot man. They have huge, powerful bodies and razor-sharp claws and teeth.
They are indigenous to the Iɴᴅᴏɴᴇsɪᴀn islands of Komodo, Rinca, Flores, and Gili Motang and are among the most ᴛᴇʀʀɪғʏing predators in the world. They can run at speeds of up to 15 mph and feed on creatures that are 80% their size. Considering that their saliva contains 50 distinct species of bacteria, it can be quite lethal on its own.
The three main causes of conflict amongst Komodo dragons are territorial defense, nest defense, and mate competition. Komodo dragons are solitary creatures that tenaciously protect their ʜᴜɴᴛing grounds. Only during ᴍᴀᴛɪɴɢ season do they congregate together.
In the video below, two Komodo dragons fought so viciously that the region where they battled created a small dust storm. Each appeared to be stronger than the other until one of them finally overcame the other and stacked it on top of itself to declare victory.
