Chicago Bulls Alex Caruso, Javonte Green, and mascot Benny the Bull gave 10-year-old Ben Krueger a surprise he would not soon forget as they visited him during basketball practice. The heartwarming meeting between Krueger and the Bulls was organized by the Advocate Children’s Hospital.
An incredible fighter
Krueger has already been through a lot at a young age. When he was just five months old, he was rushed to the hospital after he suffered a stroke and a seizure that left the boy with long-term damage.
“Left-sided weakness. His left side kind of shut down on him,” said Kenny Krueger, Ben’s dad and basketball coach. “Lots of doctor’s visits. His PT, OT, speech. Some surgeries. He has come a long way.”
The young Krueger even got hospitalized just last December after suffering another stroke. However, he has found comfort in watching the Chicago Bulls play, which made the surprise even more special.
“I was just so surprised when they came in, like, this can’t be happening,” Ben said.
He will watch his first Bulls game
After Caruso and Green—who remains out as he continues to rehab from knee surgery—played some basketball with the kids, the Bulls invited Krueger to watch them play against Philadelphia on March 20. The game will be Krueger’s first live NBA game experience.
“I’m happy,” Ben said. “I hope the Bulls win in Philadelphia.”
The last time the Bulls faced off against the Sixers, Chicago won, 126-112, to tie the season series up at 1-1.
