Dramatic video captures the moment a herd of buffalo charged to the aid of a wounded bull that had been ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋed by a pride of lions. One of the huge cats was launched into the air on the horns of the buffalo when many of them charged the lions.
Tour leader Jonty Bozas recorded the video while escorting a group of visitors through the MalaMala Game Reserve in Sᴏᴜᴛʜ Aғʀɪᴄᴀ. Mr. Bozas observed a pride of nine lions stalking the buffalo while on the safari.
The lions ᴀᴛᴛᴀᴄᴋed a single prey, climbing on its back and biting its feet and flanks in an effort to bring the enormous animal to the ground. A different member of the herd charged in after hearing the buffalo’s frantic sounds, saving it from apparent ᴅᴇᴀᴛʜ at the hands of the adult lions.
One of the large cats was smashed by its horns, sending it flying. The lions were forced to flee as the buffalo herd reacted violently. Mr. Bozas said that it was a stunning sighting, and they were fortunate that it occurred in broad daylight and they can watch them directly as well as record the video.
