McLaren’s fearless supercar engineers were not joking around when they produced the 765LT. The 765 is the most powerful LT the British auto manufacturer has produced. The 765LT lives up to McLaren’s brand ethos, “Longtail,” which is behind its intoxicating performance, sensational handling, aerodynamic features, and high downforce. The 2023 McLaren 765 Long Tail has been lowered and lightened and uses innovative aerodynamics to create 25 percent more downforce.
Corvette Z06 Vs McLaren 765LT: The Unusual Drag Race
Edmunds performs a U-Drag, an unconventional drag race that tests quarter mile speeds, braking, handling, and a rolling race in one. They even swap drivers to ensure both get a fair shot.
Off the line in the first race, Chevy makes a slightly better launch reaching 60mph in 3.2 seconds. The powerful McLaren accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds. McLaren accelerates past the Chevy during the second stage of acceleration. The 765LT pulls away as it gains more speed during the drag race to finish the quarter mile in 10.4 seconds at 144.5 mph. The 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 finished the quarter mile in 10.9 seconds with a speed of 130.1 mph, 5 seconds, and 14.4 mph, slower than the 2023 McLaren 765LT.
The Corvette Z06 performs better through the corners recording 1.14 G, but it is not enough to accelerate past its rival. The 765 LT has a maximum cornering of 1.09 G, which is lower, but it still has the advantage of a more powerful engine. During the entire U-Drag, the Corvette covered a distance of 3,903 ft within 31.6 seconds and finished with a speed of 144.9 mph. The 2023 McLaren crosses the quarter mile in 10.2 seconds at a speed of 144.6 mph. Its rival, the 2023 Chevy, crosses the quarter mile in 10.9 seconds at 129.8 mph.
The Corvette Z06 again outperforms the 765LT during cornering with 1.01 G compared to the 765LT’s 1.09G. The McLaren 765LT covers a distance of 3906 feet and crosses the line in 29.6 seconds at a speed of 158.8 mph. The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 covers a distance of 3933 feet and crosses the line in 32.1 seconds and at 145.3 mph.

It weighs 3686 lb with a weight-to-power ratio of 5.49 lbs/hp.
The top-of-the-line 765LT has a twin-turbo port-injected DOHC 32-valve 90-degree 4.0-liter V8 engine under its hood. McLaren’s v8 engine produces 755 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, which are gigantic numbers. The 765LT’s powertrain features an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission which powers the car through its rear wheels. It has 15.4 inches-vented carbon-ceramic discs on the front and 15.0 inches-vented carbon-ceramic discs on the rear wheels. It weighs 3060 lbs with a weight-to-power ratio of 4.05 lbs/hp.
The 2023 McLaren 765LT Beats The Corvette Z06
In both U-Drag races, the 765LT emerges the winner with a minimum time of 29.6 seconds during the second race. Further, the England’s supercar breaks the record for the highest speed to cross the line at 160.3 mph.
Although the McLaren outperforms the Chevy during the quarter mile and rolling races, the Corvette Z06 comes out as the winner in terms of handling.
