While the Kansas City Chiefs are set for the foreseeable future at quarterback with Patrick Mahomes, the team was recently listed as the betting favorite to sign former Pro Bowl quarterback Carson Wentz.
According to BetOnline, the Chiefs are +300 favorites to land the ex-Washington Commanders quarterback, followed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (+400), Las Vegas Raiders (+600), and the Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons and Buffalo Bills, who all have +700 odds.
The Commanders released Wentz on Monday after a disappointing one-year stint in which he threw for 1,755 yards, 11 touchdowns and nine interceptions while compiling a 2-5 record as the team’s starter.
Washington, which acquired Wentz last offseason for second- and third-round picks in 2022 and a conditional pick in 2023, saved $26.17 million against the cap by cutting the former No. 2 overall pick.
Whichever team Wentz signs with next season will be his fourth in four years after spending his first five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Carson Wentz signed a 4-year, $128 million extension with the Eagles in 2019. Its base value, over 6 years, folding two years of his rookie deal in, was about $154 million. Today, the Commanders terminated that deal.
Wentz wound up making $105,198,279 of the total, from 3 teams.

Kansas City could use an experienced backup behind Mahomes with 13-year vet Chad Henne announcing his retirement after the Super Bowl. The only other quarterback the Chiefs have under contract in 2023 is 25-year-old seventh-round pick Chris Oladokun.
Though Mahomes started every game this season, he did miss some time in the playoffs with an ankle injury. Henne relieved him in the wild-card round against Jacksonville, leading a touchdown drive right before halftime.
