What Sir Alex Ferguson said to Erik ten Hag as they were photographed eating supper together ahead of the Carabao Cup final

Erik ten Hag appears to be picking Sir Alex Ferguson’s brains ahead of the Carabao Cup final, with the duo sighted meeting this week.

Sir Alex Ferguson has no doubt been impressed by Erik ten Hag at Man Utd

Erik ten Hag has shared an in-depth conversation with iconic ex-Man Utd  boss Sir Alex Ferguson ahead of his first chance to win silverware as their manager this weekend.

United take on Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Saturday, a competition that was won four times under Ferguson between 1992 and 2010, thanks to Ten Hag’s squad revival.

Ahead of that fixture, as well as during Liverpool’s capitulation at home against Real Madrid in the Champions League, Ten Hag might well have asked for some advice from the serial winner.

In a snap shared to Twitter by @Patron_MUFC, the duo looked to be deep in conversation while sitting in a restaurant booth, with United fans loving.

One supporter wrote in response: “I really like this. Happy they have met and had a nice dinner. One legend and one future legend.”

With the second-leg of their Europa League play-off clash against Barcelona coming up before the final, the Dutchman faces a pivotal few weeks in the dugout.

Currently competing in all four competitions, United face Barcelona and Newcastle before their FA Cup fifth round clash against West Ham.

That comes before Premier League fixtures against Liverpool, Southampton and Brighton, with United’s progress going to the test midway through the campaign.

Following their 3-0 win over Leicester at Old Trafford at the weekend, Ten Hag was asked when asked about a potential title race.

Erik ten Hag is one win away from breaking Man Utd’s trophy drought

He said, with United five points behind leaders Arsenal having played a game more: “We don’t think about that. But first of all we think next game and Thursday, it’s going to be a big night – it has to be for us but we have to work for that.

“We have to fight the opponent with our fans and to make Old Trafford really a fortress and that is what we are thinking about.

“So the game plan has to be right and then we have to follow the rules and principles from our game.”
