More than 100 people have already died in mass shootings in the US less than seven weeks into 2023, terrifying new statistics have revealed.
The National Gun Violence Archive (GVA), a database which is updated every day to track the number of gun-related deaths in injuries across America, has determined that 68 mass shootings have already taken place this year alone.
The GVA defines a mass shooting as a gun-related incident in which four or more people are shot or killed, not including the shooter – though if the shooter dies, this is added to the death toll.
According to their statistics, an eye-watering 104 people have been killed and 269 injured in mass shootings in the US. Only 45 days of 2023 have passed.
In comparison, the GVA recorded 647 mass shootings in 2022 in which 762 people died – including the shootings.
On current trend, the US is set to have its deadliest year for mass shootings ever.
The latest toll comes after a shooter killed three people and left five in critical condition yesterday evening on Michigan State University campus.
Police later revealed the shooter had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
