Alejandro Garnacho had cut a frustrated figure for Manchester United in midweek against Leeds. Erratic finishing undercut his good overall play, and he looked visibly annoyed not to have scored.
The youngster’s wait for a first goal of 2023 came to an end on Sunday, with Manchester United winning 2-0 away at Leeds.
Garnacho came off the bench to double the lead at Elland Road, following up Marcus Rashford’s goal minutes earlier.
It a relief for Garnacho, who can hopefully calm down a little and stop putting too much pressure on himself, while this also answers those who were unfairly critical of his midweek performance.
United stars support Garnacho
This was Garnacho’s frustrated message in midweek, posting a picture of himself beating the turf, writing: “When you don’t understand what is happening, remember that God is in control. I trust the plan you have for me.”
The Argentine youngster this time wrote a simple message, “God is great”, following his strike in the 2-0 win.
There was praise for Garnacho from Bruno Fernandes, who in his Instagram post about the game, picked out the youngster for recognition.
He was pleased to see Garnacho score, writing: “This is the way 💪🏼 the United way ❤️ @garnacho7 you know you deserve this kick.”
Garnacho has been a big contributor this year despite a lack of goals since the win over Fulham, has played his part.
He provided an assist in the derby win over City, and helped to create the winner against Crystal Palace a week earlier.
This time it was Garnacho’s time to return to the scoresheet, and to do it in a rivalry game against Leeds was even more special.
Up next is Barcelona, where as a Madrid-born kid, Garnacho will be extra keen to make a decisive impact.
