Say what you want about reboots, but The Addams Family is one of those rare media franchises that seems to find success no matter what medium, era, or platform its placed in. Something about a Gothic family that’s a little stranger than everyone else is both amusing and endearing to watch. The family’s constant dance with macabre and standoffish demeanor is what makes them such a fun cast of characters to indulge in since their inception back in 1938.
Still, part of what makes The Addams Family so memorable is that they have largely stayed the same since being introduced to the greater public in 1964 with an ABC sitcom. Parents Morticia and Gomez Addams have stayed hopelessly in love with each other for decades. Pugsley, much like his father, is energetic. Wednesday, on the other hand, is quiet, stone-faced, and ruthless. And although it may seem as if the characters who give the least emotion would be the least compelling, Wednesday has remained a deadpan wonder for years, helped in part by Christina Ricci’s hilarious and engaging performance as Wednesday in Barry Sonnenfeld’s The Addams Family and Addams Family Values in the ’90s.
Now, Netflix is taking another stab at the Addams Family, but this time focusing primarily on Wednesday Addams as she traverses high school. But of course, no regular high school can hold Wednesday, so she’s being sent to Nevermore Academy, a place for supernatural beings and anyone deemed an “outcast,” although usually that means a human with powers.

Yes! On January 6, 2023, Netflix announced Wednesday would return for another season.

The show broke Netflix records according to Deadline, with audiences watching enough minutes of the show in its first two weeks on Netflix for Wednesday to become the second highest watched show on the platform (the first is, of course, Stranger Things). It’s safe to say Wednesday is one of Netflix’s biggest shows to date.
Who would be in the Season 2 Wednesday cast?
[Some Season 1 spoilers below!]
We can assume that the core characters from Season 1 will be back: Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, of course, along with Emma Myers as Enid, Joy Sunday as Bianca, Percy Hynes White as Xavier, Jamie McShane as Sheriff Galpin, and (the hand of) magician Victor Dorobantu as Thing. We would also expect to see Addams Family members Catherine Zeta-Jones (as Morticia), Luis Guzmán (as Gomez), Fred Armisen (as Uncle Fester), Isaac Ordonez (as Pugsley) and George Burcea (as Lurch) all return in their similar recurring capacities. And with the way the season ended, it feels likely that we’ll see Hunter Doohan as Tyler once again, one way or another.
One big role that would seem likely to be cast? Xavier’s father, who Season 1 hinted was a big shot famous person. This is not unlike Riverdale (a show quite similar to Wednesday in a lot of ways), which hinted a Veronica’s father, Hiram Lodge, for much of its first season only to introduce him as a major antagonist played by Mark Consuelos later on.
A couple characters we can likely say goodbye to: Principal Larissa Weems (Gwendoline Christie) and Dr. Valerie Kinbott (Riki Lindhome), both of whom were unceremoniously killed by (the real) Laurel Gates and the Hyde. We never saw what happened to Marilyn Thornhill (Christina Ricci) after Wednesday was done with her, so her return remains up in the air (and could, quite frankly, depend on how Ricci’s shooting schedule for her other hit show, Yellowjackets, looks).

What will Season 2 of Wednesday be about?
[Some Season 1 spoilers below!]
Without spoiling anything for those of you who haven’t seen Season 1, Wednesday has a central mystery throughout its first season, plus a number of intriguing characters who deserve to have their backstories explored in future episodes.
Most likely, Season 2 will focus on a new major mystery for Wednesday to uncover about Nevermore and its surrounding town. Plus, she’ll probably have more developments in her clairvoyance, which hopefully means we get at least one more visit from her mother, Morticia, who may have some insight into how Wednesday can best hone her gifts. If we’re taking a stab, we’re guessing that Xavier’s dad will sooner or later become a part of this story—they’ve set him up as someone with a lot of power and influence.
That being said, there are wrinkles of Season 1 left open that Season 2 could continue to explore. First and foremost, in the closing moments of the season, Tyler begins to once again “Hyde out.” Will he be at large again in Season 2? What about Laurel Gates? Did she die or go to prison or neither of the above? Is Weems really dead? How will Gomez, Morticia, and Uncle Fester react when learning of how Wednesday’s first year at Nevermore ultimately played out?
This is a fun show, and if Season 2 comes, we expect another fun season. Stay tuned, we’ll update this space when we know more.
