Louis Leterrier’s take on the Fast & Furious franchise comes with its own bit of family drama. With the tenth installment backing up on the events of the fifth, Jason Momoa’s entry into Fast X has finally had some well-needed disclosure. The Toretto clan has been going off on globe-trotting, space-faring adventures for quite some time now, and working alongside government agencies had allowed some breathing time to the crew from their usual street-level adventures for a while. But the past has waited long enough and it is now time to collect.

Jason Momoa Expands On His Villainous Role in Fast X
Since Jason Momoa’s turn as Khal Drogo, his cinematic or television roles have hardly been parried as evil or even anti-heroic in nature. As it turns out, even Drogo wasn’t allowed the dignity to retain his uncivilized, barbaric warlord reputation by the end of his short-lived tenure in Game of Thrones. For a man of Momoa’s stature (in terms of physicality), it has been rather a shame to not use his talent combined with his looks to portray an intimidating villain on the big screen and unleash his full potential in the genre. Not anymore though. In an interview with Variety, the actor claims:
“Time of my life. I get to be the bad guy finally. I’ve been the good guy for a while. He’s very sadistic and androgynous and he’s a bit of a peacock… He’s got a lot of issues, this guy. He’s definitely got some daddy issues.”

More introspection into the role of the bad guy that Momoa has to offer has revealed that his character could most possibly be related to the Hernan Reyes family, the Brazilian drug lord that Dominic Toretto and his posse took down in the events of Fast Five.
The little backstory that the trailer exposes makes it seem likely that Momoa’s character, Dante, was present during the climactic and fiery showdown at the bridge, and in the decade that has elapsed since that fateful event, he has curated a perfectly crafted revenge on the Fast gang, centering his plans specifically around Dom Toretto’s 8-year-old son, Little D – as revealed in the opening lines of the trailer.
What Does Dante Want From the Toretto Clan in Fast X?
Given how the crew traces its story back to the roots – essentially dragged and goaded by Jason Momoa’s villain into doing so, the film does have a poetic ring to it. With street racing once again back on the menu, the fans cannot have enough of the adrenaline-fueled ride that’s being promised already. But poetic as it may be, such a narrative also comes with its tragic flaws.

If vengeance is what the sadistic mind of Momoa’s character, Dante, seeks then going with the theory of an eye for an eye may be more in line with the plot. Fast X being the penultimate film in the saga, the stakes are being made out to be higher than ever and in the end, it might all be about “a son for a father” story with Dante calling for an all-out war as he puts the fate (and life) of Little D hanging in the balance.
Fast X premieres on May 19, 2023.
