The Chicago Bulls have been hanging around the part of the standings that will put them in the NBA Play-In Tournament in the Eastern Conference. With a record of 26-28, the Bulls can go either way when it comes to the NBA Trade Deadline.
There are a few teams around the league that are hoping the Bulls decide to become sellers at the deadline. While they are struggling to string together wins consistently, they have some players on their roster that would be very useful to other franchises around the NBA.
The player who would draw the most attention should he hit the trade market is Zach LaVine. While his numbers are down a little bit this season compared to the last two seasons when he was an All-Star, LaVine would be a huge upgrade for multiple teams around the NBA.
Recently, it was reported that the Bulls were showing very little interest in moving LaVine ahead of the deadline. However, his situation has become one to keep an eye on as things in Chicago sound like they could be changing.
According to Matt Moore of The Action Network, executives around the league have gotten the impression that LaVine isn’t considered untouchable or off the table in trade talks. However, if a deal is going to get done, it will cost a lot.
The Bulls are looking for what Moore described as “star assets” in return for LaVine. That could mean a combination of young players and draft capital, which a few teams around the NBA can certainly cobble together.
Alas, LaVine’s market may be nonexistent ahead of the deadline. Two of the teams that were linked to LaVine, the Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Mavericks, have both pulled off blockbuster trades. The Lakers completed a three-team deal with the Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves on Wednesday night, while the Mavericks acquired Kyrie Irving from the Brooklyn Nets.
The last team that has been mentioned as a landing spot for LaVine is the New York Knicks, who have been seeking out a star player for years. After striking out on Donovan Mitchell in the 2022 offseason, the Knicks are still in the market to make a blockbuster trade and LaVine could be their guy.
