Before this Thursday’s 2023 trade deadline, the Brooklyn Nets must respond to a significant query. Given that they already lost one of their two superstars in Kyrie Irving’s trade to the Dallas Mavericks, they must decide what they will do with their future.
Now that Irving is on his new team, taking shots at the Nets for the way they treated him, the Brooklynites need to come to a solution to what they’ll do to Kevin Durant, as the 2x NBA champion has been mentioned in trade rumors now.
Durant was close to leaving the Nets last offseason after he voiced his unhappiness with the direction of the team. Given the team’s high asking price, nobody made a run for him, but things could change in the next 24 hours or so.
Brooklyn Nets Could Change Their Mind About Trading Kevin Durant
The last we knew about KD and the Nets was that the team wasn’t interested in dealing their best player, not even after Kyrie was traded to the Dallas Mavericks. The situation is very complex for the Nets, but they looked set to keep KD on the roster.
However, Brian Windhorst of ESPN reports that the Nets could end up trading KD, as the team’s mindset might have changed compared to last year.
“Now that Kyrie has been traded, maybe the Nets’ position on not trading Durant as it really was kind of last summer may change,” said Brian Windhorst, via RealGM. “That is an interesting development that has happened over the last 48 hours since the Kyrie trade from people that I’ve talked to.”
As soon as the Kyrie trade was reported, a couple of teams set their eyes on Durant, including the Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat, who have been linked with the 2x NBA champion several times.
The trade deadline is upon us and many teams, not only the Nets, will try to bolster their ranks. Time will tell if KD will stay with them or find a new home in the league.
