Keanu Reeves’ Constantine Sequel Not Canceled At Warner Bros

Keanu Reeves’ Constantine 2 was rumoured to be cancelled, but Warner Bros. nixed the speculation by releasing a statement on the DC project.

Keanu Reeves' Constantine Sequel Not Canceled At Warner Bros.

Despite rumors claiming Keanu Reeves’ Constantine 2 was cancelled, the demon-fighting detective sequel is still hell blazing ahead as Reeves continues to push forward alongside original director Frances Lawrence.

Amidst the ongoing shakeup at Warner Bros., specifically their DC film side, projects have been canceled and remixed, and some have just gotten lost in the shuffle. But fans of the world-weary occult detective created by comicdom’s grand old grump, Alan Moore, don’t have to worry about the long-awaited sequel to Reeves’ Constantine.

And amidst all the restructuring at Warner Bros. Discovery and James Gunn’s new DC slate, it was easy to think that maybe Reeves’ continued attempt to get a long-gestating Constantine sequel was dead and buried. Often-reliable scooper KC Walsh fueled rumours of Constantine 2 being cancelled by declaring as much on Twitter. However, a Warner Bros. spokesperson told Entertainment Weekly that Constantine 2 was not scrapped.

When James Gunn and Peter Safran announced their planned new DC slate, titled “Gods and Monsters” and featuring both big-name heroes—including new runs for BatmanSuperman, and Supergirl—and side ones like The AuthorityCreature Commandos, and Swamp Thing, there was no mention of the previously approved Constantine 2. Most fans thought, with what happened to the Michael Keaton-returns vehicle, BatgirlConstantine 2 may have been dumped in the trash pile of rejected projects not slated to go ahead. Since Constantine 2 is still going ahead, where it fits in the continued DC universe will be the real question. Some people think Constantine 2 will slot alongside the Swamp Thing origin movie as part of DC comics’ darker areas, especially since Moore wrote Swamp Thing’s most famous run.

Reeves, star of multiple franchises to date, including the Bill and Ted trilogy, a Matrix quartet, and the ongoing John Wick actioners, would be adding another feather to his franchise cap when Constantine 2 hits theaters and his battered, broken man continues trying to save his soul from eternal damnation by fighting the darkness here on earth. Frances Lawrence, whose biggest project after Constantine was the Hunger Games series with Jennifer Lawrence (no relation), is set to return alongside his original star for another go-round at the demons and demigods that populate the DC universe. When Constantine 2 drops, it might finally give John the redemption he craves.

Constantine 2 is reportedly still in development.
