MU confirmed Antony will be their latest star absent due to injury. The £95m player was hurt after the recent win against Crystal Palace.
MU is suffering because of a tight schedule, with a density of up to 3 days / 1 match from the end of last year until now. This is considered a turning point for MU this season, because they will constantly have important matches.
This week, MU will have 2 consecutive matches against Leeds Utd in the English Premier League. Soon after, they met Barcelona in the play-off round in the Europa League, in between a competition with Leicester. At the end of February, the Red Devils played the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle.
In that context, MU has more and more difficulties when constantly losing stars due to injury. After Van de Beek, it was Eriksen’s turn to suffer a serious injury and take a long-term break. The latest Anthony Martial and expensive rookie Antony also have problems and are definitely absent against Leeds.
In a press conference before the game against Leeds, coach Erik ten Hag confirmed: “McTominay and Martial will not be involved. So does Antony. He was hurt after the game against Crystal Palace. So we need to deal with this situation.”
In addition to injury cases, MU also lost Casemiro because of suspension. The Brazilian midfielder received a direct red card for strangling Will Hughes of Crystal Palace and was suspended for 3 matches in the English Premier League. Despite the controversy surrounding Casemiro’s red card, coach Ten Hag decided not to appeal.
The Dutch coach explained: “I don’t think the referee was right when he showed Casemiro the red card. However, I feel we have no chance of overturning the penalty.”
