Margot Robbie — following The Wolf of Wall Street — virtually hopped on the express train to Hollywood’s elite circle.
Becoming Harley Quinn in the DCEU and taking on talented figure skater Tonya Harding in the 2017 Drama I, Tonya (which earned the actress Oscar and Golden Globe nominations) turned Robbie into a household name. Margot Robbie is set to appear in Birds of Prey, as Harley Quinn once more, and is also set to star in Ruin, Barbie, Marian, and Gotham City Sirens.
Robbie definitely knows how to keep herself busy in a town that, quite often, reminds its inhabitants of how fleeting fame can be. While growing her professional life, and rising through the ranks in her career, Margot Robbie has simultaneously managed to meet the man of her dreams.
Margot Robbie is married to Tom Ackerley; they wed in 2016. Their boho wedding ceremony was all the rage across social media a few years back. Ackerley is a producer and a director, and he is best known for his work on I, Tonya, Terminal, and Dreamland.
While they worked together on Margot Robbie’s most impressive turn as an actress, they met on the set of Suite Francaise back in 2013. Many of Ackerley’s most well-known projects have since involved Robbie.
While Ackerley and Robbie are two lovebirds — still in the depths of their early romance — Margot Robbie had her eyes set on a different kind of man before they wound up together. During an interview with Extra, a few years back, the actress revealed her type and, given recent events, it’s quite ironic.
Margot Robbie reveals her type to Mario Lopez
Back in 2014, when Margot Robbie was still single, Mario Lopez asked the actress how, someone such as herself, could remain single. Robbie explained, with modesty, that she never stays in one place long enough to have a boyfriend. Lopez then went on to explain that he likes to “play Cupid,” prying Margot Robbie for her type. Thus, he would know the kind of guy to look out for. Robbie stated:
Someone kind of rugged. I kind of like ponytails. Beard…I really, and do you know my massive obsession, and I’m really targeting a niche market here, a harelip.
Lopez proceeded to question Robbie, asking, “like Joaquin Phoenix?” Margot Robbie nodded her head yes, excited to agree with Lopez’s presumption. Lopez asked the actress if Phoenix was single, and she said, “God, I hope so.” Mario Lopez then committed to finding out if Phoenix was single for Robbie.
While Phoenix and Robbie never wound up together, it makes for an amusing story, as Margot Robbie now portrays Harley Quinn in the DCEU, and Phoenix just played the title character in Joker. If you know anything about the DC Universe, you know that these two characters are lovers.
If you’re hoping to see these two pair up on the screen, you’re expecting too much; the DCEU has never been the best at maintaining an inter-connected plot and keeping characters consistent, as Jared Leto previously starred across from Robbie as the Joker in Suicide Squad.
