Manchester United are expected to strengthen in the summer transfer window, with the club set to target a striker.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is preparing to make a number of changes to his Reds squad this summer, with reports claiming that the Dutchman is targeting a striker, a central defender and a dynamic midfielder.
As reported by the Mirror, the United boss is keen to make several additions at the end of the season. The club spent around £200m in transfer fees to bring Antony, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia to Old Trafford last summer. As a result, the club will likely be required to make a number of sales before adding to their ranks.
After an expensive summer, United made just three signings in January – with Jack Butland, Wout Weghorst and Marcel Sabitzer all joining on loan. It has been suggested that the Reds will look to offload as many as six members of their first-team squad at the end of the campaign.
United are expected to spend big on a new striker in the summer transfer window, with Anthony Martial struggling with injuries this season and Weghorst only at the club until the end of the campaign. The Reds also lost Cristiano Ronaldo in November following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan. Tottenham striker Harry Kane and Napoli ace Victor Osimhen have both been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Elsewhere, the Telegraph report that United goalkeeper Dean Henderson is one of Nottingham Forest’s ‘top targets’ in the summer, with the Midlands outfit looking to sign the shot-stopper permanently at the end of the season. The 25-year-old has made 20 appearances in all competitions since joining Forest on loan.
The report claims that United announced their intention to exercise a recall clause last month, which came after Martin Dubravka’s return to parent club Newcastle United. However, Henderson insisted that his priority was to remain at the City Ground until at least the summer.
Henderson is currently sidelined with an injury, which led Forest to sign Keylor Navas on loan until the end of the campaign. The former Real Madrid man won 12 trophies during his time with Los Blancos.
It appears unlikely that Henderson will be part of Ten Hag’s squad next season. The goalkeeper has made just 29 first-team appearances for United.
