Scarlett Johansson is ‘disappointed’ at being the highest-grossing actress of all-time, raking in $3.3 billion (£2.5 billion) – for one very good reason.
She’s the only woman in the top 10.
Yes, that’s right, the 31-year-old Captain America star really is the lone female force among Hollywood’s most bankable stars, according to Box Office Mojo.
Despite the staggering sum made from her 37 films, she only just scraped into tenth ahead of Gary Oldman, far behind leader Harrison Ford, who has made $4.87 bn (£3.76 bn) at the box office from his 41 films, followed by Samuel L. Jackson in second place with $4.64 bn (£3.58 bn) from 68 movies.
Speaking during the Gene Siskel Film Center’s annual gala in Chicago, Johansson admitted mixed feelings after her initial excitement at the news:
‘It’s kind of disappointing actually to be the only woman in this category. That was a little bit of a surprise to me.’
Her disappointment is understandable, as Oscar winners Meryl Streep, Sandra Bullock and Julia Roberts are nowhere to be seen.
The next nearest woman in the top 50 is Cameron Diaz, who ranks at number 19 with total earnings of $3.03 bn (£2 bn) from 34 films.
