Chelsea struggled against Fulham in the Premier League, for the second time in a number of weeks, and fans mocked the Blues for their transfers.
On Friday night, the Blues started with British record transfer fee signing Enzo Fernandez in midfield for the first time, following his deadline day arrival on Tuesday night, which came after TWENTY hours of non-stop negotiating.
Two more of Chelsea’s January signings also started the game, with Benoit Badeshille, who isn’t in their Champions League squad, and Mykhailo Mudryk also in the XI.
Graham Potter was hoping for no repeat of the recent game with their west London rivals, when Joao Felix was sent off on debut as the Blues lost.
It wasn’t quite as bad for the hosts but Mudryk did have to be replaced at half-time due to his poor performance, with yet another new signing coming on, in the shape of Noni Madueke.
The result also didn’t quite go as badly, but Chelsea were only able to come away with a point, after a relatively uninspiring 0-0 draw.
Potter would not have been happy with how his side had failed to break the deadlock and social media was awash with fans pointing out the Blues ineffectiveness despite the amount of money they’d spent in the previous month.
“Chelsea are an absolute shambles I can’t believe with all that money spent they still can’t score a single goal,” one Tottenham Hotspur fan noted, who also pointed out the irony of a Spurs fan saying it.
“All the money Chelsea have spent and they are still s***e,” another added.
The phrase ‘all that money’ was being used time and time again, and a third posted, “All that money spent, and Chelsea still can’t take a f*****g corner,” as another set piece missed the mark.
On the lack of goals being scored by the club, a fourth replied, “For all the money Chelsea spent they still haven’t bought a natural goalscorer.”
And another felt that Todd Boehly wasn’t getting much for his money, surmising, “This new Chelsea team is pretty dull so far. Not really value for money.”
“No way Chelsea spent all that money to not be able to trash Fulham,” the latest comment said, perhaps somewhat unfair on Marco Silva’s side who are three places and two points clear of their local rivals.
“I’ll be honest, folks. I think Chelsea needs to spend more money,” one supporter joked.
Even those in attendance at Stamford Bridge were getting involved, with Fulham fans singing “What a waste of money,” at their opponents towards the end of the game.
Potter’s side have scored just 22 goals in 21 appearances in the league so far in this campaign, making them the lowest by 10 goals in the top half of the table.
This season alone they have brought in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Raheem Sterling, David Datro Fofana, Mudryk, Madueke and Felix in forward positions, just to solve their issues.
Sterling, Madueke and Fofana all finished the game on Friday, with the latter having the best chance of the game, after rounding Bernd Leno, only for Tim Ream to clear the ball off the line.
