Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s brutal Champions League snub came after a one-on-one chat with Graham Potter that reportedly left the former Barcelona forward shocked and disappointed
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is said to have been left shocked and disappointed having been left out of Chelsea’s Champions League squad just five months after joining.
The 33-year-old forward, who has three goals from 17 appearances so far this season, will play no part in Chelsea’s European campaign going forward having been ignored for their 25-man squad.
Details of how the former Arsenal captain reacted have now been reported, with his future at the club now in doubt having been left out of their squad to take on Fulham in the Premier League.
The Telegraph report that Aubameyang has been left shocked and disappointed by the decision with his future at the club in doubt following a one-to-one meeting with Graham Potter.
With Benoit Badiashile also left off the list, Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao Felix and Enzo Fernandez are in, as is wantaway winger Hakim Ziyech.
The report adds that the decision was not made as a punishment against the former Gabon international, with no issues since he joined the club in September.
Fans were split over the decision, with some feeling sympathy for the striker who had scored two goals during their successful group stage.
A fan posted: “Aubameyang has no future at Chelsea and has the lowest value on the transfer market. It’s logical to drop him over anyone else.”
A more sympathetic supporter said: “I actually feel sorry for Aubameyang. Man hasn’t done anything wrong for us to treat him like s***.”
Before their Friday night fixture at Stamford Bridge, Jamie Carragher spoke on Sky Sports about Potter’s new players and how they might gel.
He said: “Chelsea are going to have problems with players who know they are not going to play.
“What are they going to be like in training? And how will they affect the group? That’s a big problem for Graham Potter.”
