It has to do with Scientology
Lisa Marie Presley revealed several years before her death that she did not have a good relationship with Tom Cruise, one of the actors most closely related to Scientology.
Elvis Presley’s daughter hated the actor, or so she said, all because of the religion they were involved in.
Lisa Marie became part of this powerful group when she was only nine years old. It was her mother, Priscilla, who decided to join, supposedly recruited by John Travolta’s assistant, Sylvia ‘Spanky’ Taylor.
Scientology had already tried to recruit Elvis, but he always maintained that they wanted him for his fame and money, something his daughter also believed.
Lisa Marie Presley’s criticism of Scientology
In fact, Lisa Marie harshly criticized Scientology in an interview with Tony Ortega, accusing the religion’s leader, David Miscavige, of taking advantage of her family’s fortune.
“At 25, after I got the inheritance, they started grooming me to be this person who would go out and get everyone else in,” said Lisa Marie Presley in 2014 after leaving the sect.
“I f**king hate Tom. I met him 20 years ago. I said I never want to be in a room with him again.”
In addition, she explained how they tried to recruit family and friends of hers, as was the case with her second husband, Michael Jackson.
“But then they realized he was getting too much bad press,” said Presley.
What is Scientology?
Founded in December 1953 by science fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology is one of the youngest but best-known religions in the world.
The beliefs of Scientologists are not known to the general public, and information about the religion is often contradictory.
All of this is controlled by the central authority located in the California church. Although its ideals are secret, its most famous members are not, as is the case of Tom Cruise, one of the most active.
