Joao Cancelo produced a stunning performance on his Bayern Munich debut, with his individual highlights making for brilliant viewing.
Cancelo made his Bayern bow on Wednesday following his loan move from Manchester City, which was completed on transfer deadline day.
And he starred as the German giants beat Mainz 4-0 to book their spot in the DFB-Pokal quarter-finals.
Best Moment:
Cancelo wasted no time in making an impact as he had a huge role in Bayern’s first goal. He created an opening on the right wing then delivered a superb ball to Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who struck a tidy side-footed finish to find the back of the net.
Player Rating: 7/10
The 28-year-old impressed on his Bayern debut and showed what he can offer to Julian Nagelsmann, who spoke glowingly about his new man after the victory.
From the right, he was a major threat and created several chances, ultimately culminating in his assist for Choupo-Moting.
The Portuguese also switched play nicely, spreading the play and looked defensively sound.
What was said about his performance:
Speaking after Bayern’s cup win, Nagelsmann hailed Cancelo’s debut and revealed the instructions he gave to him ahead of the match.
“Joao played a very good game. He was very creative, played some great passes and crosses and also made very good deep runs,” he said.
“He was playing under one of the best managers in the world. I just told him to play his game and not to think too much.”
Jamal Musiala added: “He’s a really good player, technically good, good with the ball, has great crosses as we saw in the first goal.
“I think everyone here is happy that we have him and he will help us a lot.”
