The former Borussia Dortmund star has not been a part of the United squad since the return of domestic football after the World Cup in Qatar with Dutch boss Ten Hag revealing the player had been struggling ‘physically and mentally’.
Sancho was not part of United’s training camp in Spain during World Cup action and instead underwent a personal training camp in Netherlands, working with coaches recommended to him by the United boss.
Sancho – who joined United for £73m in 2021 and has registered eight goals and four assists across 52 games in total – has since returned to Manchester but has still not been picked by Ten Hag thus far.
Some predicted that the 22-year-old was going to return for Saturday’s FA Cup fourth-round win over Reading but he was once again left out.
United host Forest in the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday with the Red Devils going into the match with a 3-0 lead on aggregate.
‘I think tomorrow that Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho will return in the game squad,’ Ten Hag told the United website on Tuesday.
‘But Scott McTominay will still be absent. I think also the next game [against Crystal Palace] he will be absent. We have to see how that process will go. And for the rest, I think everyone is fit.’
Quizzed about Sancho prior to the win over Championship side Reading, Ten Hag added: ‘He is training with the team and we will see. He is improving, he is making steps.
‘He’s on the way back, he’s making steps, so he’s back in team training and now we have to see when he is ready to go back into the games.
