Scarlett Johansson has a busy movie star life.
But this week the 38-year-old mom-of-two – who is wed to SNL star Colin Jost – told Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP that she likes to enjoy her mornings.
And in doing so the star shared some interesting facts about her personal life like that she wakes up at 6:30 am, works out four times a week when not shooting and five times a week when she is on camera, has taken to Pilates, is not strict with her diet and loves bagels as well as pancakes.
The Lucy actress – who can next be seen in Asteroid City with Margot Robbie – began her essay by sharing that her favorite part of the morning is snuggling in bed with the family and their dog named Pancake.
‘My favorite thing to do in the morning is get everyone in the bed for snuggles, including our dog, Pancake, who is usually crushed by a leg or a foot,’ revealed the star who is now shooting Project Artemis.
She has Rose Dorothy Dauriac, eight, with ex-husband Romain Dauriac whom she was wed to from 2014 until 2017. And she also has son Cosmo Jost, age one, with Colin.
Her favorite morning is on Sunday.
‘My husband [Colin Jost] and I work a lot, and our kids are also busy, so having time in the mornings on Sundays just to enjoy each other and laugh and catch up is a gift we all hugely appreciate,’ she noted.
‘Sometimes I force us all to watch classic movies, like Easter Parade. My daughter complains during the opening credits—what kid wouldn’t?—but she’s quickly swept away into the magic of the golden age. Sharing movies with her as she gets older is one of my greatest joys.’
And she loves a sweet breakfast: ‘If it’s the weekend, I make pancakes. Or we go to breakfast as a family and order pancakes.’
She then took GOOP through her morning.
At 6:30 am her alarm goes off. ‘Wake up to my iPhone alarm, which is usually set too loud and scares me. I’d invest in one of those gradual calming alarm clocks that wake you up with a glowing light, but I wouldn’t sleep all night because I’d be paranoid it wasn’t going to wake me.
‘As soon as I’m up, I check my phone. Unfortunately.
Then at 6:35 am she goes directly to her bathroom. ‘I timed out my morning skin routine with my Outset products and it’s 2 minutes and 45 seconds. How’s that for efficiency? I follow the three-step regimen: our Gentle Micellar Antioxidant Cleanser and Firming Vegan Collagen Prep Serum, and I finish with Nourishing Squalane Daily Moisturizer.
‘I wash and moisturize my face day and night (and sometimes more) with these three. I only use Outset products for my skin (really!), and I’m usually trying out new products that we are developing.
She added she recently has been adding our Boosting Oil.
Fifteen minutes later she is moving around. ‘Teeth brushed and sweat suit on, I wake my daughter to get ready for school.
‘I hate getting up early for the bus, but I love helping my daughter get ready for school.
‘Taking care of my children brings me great joy. I know someday she won’t want me to make her pigtails, so I try to enjoy every brushstroke while she’s still interested. And I make sure she eats something before we haul it to the bus.’
By 7:19 am the kid is off: ‘Bus pickup accomplished: a huge win in the parenting department.’
At 7:30 am she is back to the house to wait for my son to wake up. Colin and I use this as time to make coffee for each other.
At 8:30 am her baby son wakes up for breakfast. ‘Cuteness overload ensues. Colin and I love to sit with the baby and drink coffee and read books and chat.’
At 10 am she works out. ‘Being physically active is part of my mental well-being: I train four days a week when I’m not shooting. (When I’m shooting, I train every weekday at 6 a.m., so late-morning workouts are a luxury.)
‘I go either to meet my trainer, Eric Johnson, for circuit training or to Pilates.
‘Finding Pilates a few years ago was game-changing for my mind and body. What I love about it is how when you’re doing it, you really cannot think of anything other than what’s going on with your body. It’s not a passive exercise. Being present in the moment is hard for me, though as I get older, I have an easier time accessing that space.’
At 11 am she showers. ‘Then I do a five-minute makeup routine to help get me out the door. I’ve been using our Ultralight Boosting Oil to thin out my foundation. I love Gucci Westman’s Vital Skin Foundation Stick for its clean formulation and even coverage. I use Tower 28 MakeWaves mascara; it gives great volume, but it’s not cakey. I also love the lip jelly in Wild.’
At 11:30 am she has lunch.
‘I’m not strict with my diet. I’ll grab a breakfast wrap with eggs or a tuna sandwich. I wish I hated bagels, but I don’t.’ At noon she heads to the office.
