The Humane Society of Charlotte, NC, brought in a very special dog this summer. Sweet Potato is a happy-go-lucky girl with a contagious smile. Moneysavingbasics reports that she is also immobile in her back legs owing to a spinal injury.
Sweet Potato’s caregivers at HSC understood finding the right adopter would be difficult, as it is with most impaired shelter dogs. However, their efforts were rewarded earlier this month when Miss Sweet P was carried away to her permanent home!
Sweet Potato was pampered rotten from the time she arrived at the shelter. They decided to start a Selfies With Sweet Potato campaign after she had so many visits from volunteers and professionals.
She also had acupuncture and other therapies to help her get as strong as possible before she was adopted.
Sweet Potato was assessed for a wheelchair by the Gunnar’s Wheels Foundation early in her time at the shelter. After his own dog became crippled, Jason Parker created the group in 2014. Since then, he has aided hundreds of shelter dogs and other animals in need, including cats and goats!
Sweet Potato was ready to go when the pink custom-made chair arrived in mid-August.
“We owe Gunnar’s Wheels a big debt of gratitude!” Sweet Potato’s wheels arrived, and they’re pink! This morning, our lovely child tried on her chair and immediately took off! She’ll be cruising like a pro with a little more practice,” CHS wrote on Facebook.
Sweet Potato has found her wonderful permanent home just one month after. Her new dad’s name is unknown, but you can see from the adoption photo that he is ready, willing, and able to provide Sweet P with all the love and special care she need!
