Mason Mount is yet to pen a new deal at Chelsea despite only having 18 months left on his contract – and Liverpool are ready to pounce on him if he fails to agree terms with the Blues
Liverpool are reportedly planning to swoop on Mason Mount if he doesn’t sign a new contract with Chelsea.
Mount’s contract with the Blues expires in 18 months, and he could leave the club for free next summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal. But to ensure that doesn’t happen, the Stamford Bridge side are planning to tie the midfielder down to a new contract, according to The Guardian.
However, negotiations have hit a snag as Chelsea are reportedly yet to meet Mount’s wage demands, it was added. Mount’s said to be earning around £75,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge, making him one of the club’s lowest earners, compared to the likes of new Blues signing Mykhaylo Mudryk, who’s raking in £100,000 every seven days.
The news comes after it was reported that Mount rejected a bumper seven year-contract offer from the club he’s been at since the age of six, in November. And although the Blues are confident Mount will put pen to paper eventually, the Reds are reportedly waiting in the wings to pounce if he doesn’t.
Liverpool are in dire need of reinforcements to replenish their ageing midfield department, and 24-year-old Mount seems to fit the bill for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, as he does for Juventus, who have plummeted into 10th place in the Serie A after being docked 15 points following an investigation into their transfer dealings.
But if either side is successful in luring Mount away from Stamford Bridge, it’s claimed the Blues have already set sights on his replacement, in the form of Brighton ace Brighton’s Moises Caicedo.
Caicedo would be in good company in west London where his former Seagulls boss Graham Potter and ex-team-mate Marc Cucurella will be waiting to welcome him.
But the Blues faithful may not be as welcoming to Mount’s replacement as they’ve grown fond of the England international who has been consecutively voted the supporter’s player of the year in the previous two seasons.
