Chelsea’s new signing Mykhaylo Mudryk has arrived at Stamford Bridge as one of the most exciting youngsters in football.
However, the 21-year-old’s fate at the Blues may already be sealed having taken a somewhat jinxed squad number.
Graham Potter recently welcomed the arrival of the Ukrainian having beaten rivals Arsenal to his signature.
Chelsea have now announced that he will wear the no.15 on the back of his shirt.
Even though Didier Drogba donned such a shirt when he first arrived at the club, previous youngsters did not have as much success.
Kevin De Bruyne took the number when he broke into the first-team squad in the summer of 2013.
However, he left the club just months later and has won a multitude of trophies ever since at Manchester City and Wolfsburg.
Another youngster turned superstar to have experienced the same fate is Mohamed Salah.
Eight days after De Bruyne left, the Egyptian signed for the Blues and took the no.15 in January 2014.
He too had limited impact in the side and eventually departed for pastures new, and is now a club legend at Liverpool.
Mudryk may look at such records and think that a move away from the club would give him more success.
However, he and Chelsea fans will be confident in the knowledge that other previous players have in fact won trophies with the no.15.
Drogba won two Premier League titles with the shirt, with Victor Moses and Florent Malouda also tasting similar success.
Kurt Zouma most recently donned the number, and he got himself a Champions League winners’ medal with it in 2021.
